What is the NPO North Alps Broad Band Network?

North Alps Broad Band Network is an organization established to promote sustainable mountain tourism in the Japanese North Alps.
Like-minded owners of lodges in the southern area of the North Alps participate in the NPO as board members.
As of 2010, there are 18 lodges in the southern area of the North Alps operating the organization together.
Our activities rely on our website’s membership fee which allows us to “protect nature, such as alpine flora or snow grouse”, “preserve the environment by maintaining and improving mountain trails”, and “provide better remote medical services and rescue operations” in the North Alps.  We will continue to make every effort to further promote and develop mountain tourism in the North Alps via this mountain network.
On this website, with collaboration from the member lodges, we provide live images/video and weather information directly from the mountains.

Our Activities

■ Informatization via wireless LAN in Mountain Areas

Informatization via wireless LAN

Introducing wireless LAN: Web cameras and MPEG-2 encoders installed at the lodges send you high-quality images and movies and support other services using the Internet contents.  Also, each lodge provides various information including daily on-site today’s weather reports.

■ Ensuring Secure Mountain Climbing and Conserving Environment by Improving Mountain Trails

Ensuring Secure Mountain Climbing

Improving Mountain Trails: We improve and develop mountain trails and protect nature so that each and every climber can enjoy the North Alps.

■ Protecting the North Alps’ Unique Nature, such as Alpine Flora and Snow Grouse

Protecting the North Alps' Unique Nature

Protecting Alpine Flora: We monitor the area to prevent digging or stealing of alpine flora living in the North Alps, while vitalizing and restoring their ecosystems.
Also, we protect the habitat of alpine wildlife such as snow grouse to prevent damage to their ecosystem from the recent increase in climbers.

■ Providing Better Mountain Medical Services and Rescue Operations Linked to an Increased Number of Elderly Climbers

Providing Better Mountain Medical Services

Remote Medical Services: Connecting the lodges with local hospitals or doctors via a high-speed network, we support remote medical services. We can use the network to send images/movies of injured climbers or patients requiring urgent attention from the lodges to the hospitals, receiving first-aid instructions from doctors or medical students.
